About

Preserving local history and being a resource for genealogical research for Benton County is the primary goal of the Benton County Historical Society.  Operating as an all-volunteer organization since it’s beginning in 1970, involvement of members as well as non-members is key to obtaining this goal.

Monthly meetings are open to the public, and held on the fourth Monday of every month at 6:30 pm at the Horridge House, 612 First Avenue in Vinton.  Within the BCHS there are committees that represent each of the two properties as well as education, historical collections and donations, along with genealogy and research.  All of the committees are eager to welcome those who wish to actively participate.

Members of the Society receive a quarterly newsletter with information about activities and opportunities for involvement as well as receive a discount on scheduled programs hosted by the BCHS.  Membership dues are $20.00 per person per year. Please mail to: BCHS, c/o Treasurer, PO Box 22, Vinton, Iowa 52349.

We look forward to getting to know you as we continue to unlock the history of our community.

is to forever remain a child.” ~Cicero
